Ryan Sander is this week’s male athlete of the week, for his superb pitching performance on Sunday, March 27th. Sander only allowed six hits, while striking out seven and walking two, shutting down Upper Iowa University, and getting just the second complete game shutout for a Bemidji pitcher since 2004. The only other complete game shutout for a pitcher since 2004 was two weeks ago, when sophomore Phil Bray achieved the task. Sander, a senior from St. James, Minn. is rebounding from an arm injury that kept him off the mound last year, after just one appearance.
Kelli Christiansen is this week’s female athlete of the week, for her three victories in the past week in women’s tennis. Christiansen picked up a singles win, and a doubles win on Saturday, in the 8-1 triumph over the University of Mary, as well as picked up a singles victory on Wednesday, March 23rd, in a loss to Duluth. Christiansen is 4-7 on the year in singles, and picked up her first doubles win of the season, with partner Kara Johnson, on Saturday. She is a junior at BSU, and a native of Bemidji,
