Mac Miller Shows Us What He’s Got

Whatever you do, do not think of this guy as the next Eminem.  I’m not saying this because he’s horrible, but because there will never be another Eminem.  With that said, let’s talk about Mac Miller.  I think he’s a real nice addition to hip-hop, and the fact that he’s only 19 is nice, too.  I say that because the hip-hop game is known to be more of a young person’s area.  This means Miller has a lot of time to become one of the main guys, but he still has a ways to go.
After giving Miller’s “Blue Slide Park” more than a few listens, I’ve decided that it’s a good album.  Among the highlights are “Frick Park Market,” the chorus of which is really catchy, and there’s “Smile Back,” which is another one you’ll be able to turn up at parties and in the car.  The other one that stood out to me is “Up All Night,” which is another upbeat one, but the album is full of them.
Now admittedly I haven’t heard any of Miller’s mix tapes, but I like what I hear so far.  It’s no secret that he has talent, and I like the wordplay he uses as well.  I read that he’s very influenced by old-school hip-hop which makes me happy, because it’s a nice change.  I’m all for anthems, but someone who’s willing to spend time on their lyrics is always a winner in my book.

My Grade: 3 out of 5 stars
