A Northern Student How-To: Beaver Buck Meals

By Bethany Erickson

Getting tired of those same old frozen pizza’s and pre-packaged meals?  Shake it up and make real food. The Lodge store under Wally’s Dining Center has a ton of ingredients that can be used to make real food and you can buy them all with Beaver Bucks.

To see how easy it would be to make a great meal with only Beaver Bucks, we tested it out.  Spaghetti tacos, garlic green beans, and some delicious brownies for dessert were on our menu!

Spaghetti Tacos:

  • Desired amount of spaghetti noodles
  • 1 jar of your preferred sauce
  • 2 cans of white-meat chicken
  • Dash of garlic salt
  • Taco shells

Get water boiling in a medium pot and cook noodles until tender.  Strain water from canned chicken.  Heat up pan on stove and add chicken, sauce, and garlic salt.  Stir until warm.  When noodles are tender, strain water from the pot, add the sauce with chicken to the pot, and stir together until evenly coated. Follow instructions on taco shell box to warm up your shells.  Put your spaghetti in your shell and eat it up!

Garlic Green Beans:

  • 1 can green beans
  • Garlic salt
  • Butter

Heat up pan on stove.  Strain water from green beans.  Add all ingredients to the pan together and mix until hot.

Brownie mix is available at the Lodge, and so are other ingredients that you can use to cater to your own likings. We used butterscotch chips, Nutella, and caramel.  Choose some fun ingredients and follow the cooking instructions on the back of the box to make your own delicious dessert.

All of the above ingredients were bought from The Lodge but feel free to add or substitute any of them. Enjoy your next meal!
